The statuette depicts a naked, bearded male figure, in the act of hinting at a dance step. The presence of goat’s horns on the head and the small tail identify the figure in a drunken Faun. The refinement of the execution of this work, whose musculature is rendered with great skill and softness, refers to a center of Alexandrian Hellenistic production.
The cast is taken from the original bronze preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and found in the impluvium of the atrium of the Casa del Fauno of the Pompeii Excavations.
