Bust of Antinous Osiris

Code B100

Bust from the famous marble statue of the Vatican Museums representing the favorite of Emperor Hadrian, who died in the waters of the Nile in 130 a.C.

The iconographic model of this statue, like Antinous-Osiris, expresses the regal and divine nature of the figure.

Donated to Pope Benedict XIV, the statue was placed in the Capitoline Museum in 1742. Then, in 1838, Pope Gregory XVI transferred it to the Vatican, to be exhibited in the new Egyptian Museum.
